‘ironman’ Coo Steers Fitness First To Become Fittest Company In The Region

Living its dream of setting exceptional benchmarks as the most health-conscious and fit organization; Fitness First ME, one of world’s largest fitness brands, has set the ball rolling for it to become the fittest company in the Middle East.

Leading from the front; Half-Ironman and COO, George Flooks has also announced participation along with 50 other challengers from Fitness First in the Dubai International Triathlon that is scheduled to be held in November 2015. A fitness enthusiast and probably the fittest COO in the region, George has been undergoing strenuous and challenging training to compete for the event and is known to be an inspirational leader when it comes to fitness and physical training for all at Fitness First.

Having participated earlier in the Triathlon, George’s training schedule includes Ironman training workouts, running and freestyle training; burning as much as 2,500 calories per session. His daily routine begins with a 100km bike ride at 4am and he also combines 2.5km swim sessions and 10km runs to incorporate the change in training Half-Ironman calls for. Also a focussed nutritional plan of no sugar intake, very low carbs and high protein in the initial training weeks reinforced George’s mantra of ‘Train hard, eat clean’. He also devotes a day off for recovery and whenever his body demands rest to recover from fatigue. His current workout regime in preparation for the Half Iron Man event includes 2.5kms swimming twice a week, cycling 200kms a week and running 30kms a week with a freestyle workout once a week for variety.

An ardent fitness aficionado, George Flooks links fitness to professional excellence saying; “What makes you successful in the fitness/sport world are the same things/disciplines that make you successful in corporate world. Everything is a choice, nothing happens without dedication and discipline, you have to commit to a goal, and you have to be motivated to get after it. Those values, regardless of industry or environment will always help you achieve. Our mission is to rank premier as the ‘Fittest company in the region’ and not just preach about fitness.”

Reiterating its commitment towards healthy living, fitness is a part of the culture and ethos at Fitness First where all staff members are expected to workout at least 8 times a month on a recorded MYZONE workout. Bringing about camaraderie and self-discipline amongst the staff through fitness, worth appreciating is the fact that participants nominated by George for the Dubai Triathlon belong to different work profiles ranging from non-fitness backgrounds such as accounts, marketing as well as fitness managers; thus allowing them an opportunity to deliver their best outside their comfort zones.

Aiming to complete the challenge in the allocated 8 hours to achieve the Half Ironman medal, George Flooks and the Fitness First team is aiming to exceed performance expectations at this iconic event and later intends to set goals on the Olympic Distance Triathlon.

A corporeal example of determination and discipline, George inspires his staff to ‘Go Further’ in life and lives the ‘Fitness First’ ethos with commitment and values. A true role model for his family, colleagues and employees; he stresses on the importance of knowing that fitness and health are irreplaceable investments money can’t buy. Sharing his plans on nominating 100 Fitness First participants for the next Dubai Triathlon, George simply sums it up in just 5 words, “Do it, Because you can”.
