We have onsite expert trainers to work with you one on one, as well as group classes that will suit your level of fitness. From serious weight lifting, also known as bodybuilding, to toning and strengthening, you'll find the right option at your nearest Fitness First club.
There are many options for strength training:
1. Group Strength Training
The use of free weights such as barbells and dumbbells are fundamental to effective muscle strengthening and bodybuilding. Fitness First offers Freestyle Group training. You will be taught how to use the weights for maximum muscle-building effect. Our experts will talk you through using superset exercises in combination with freestyle equipment. Taking your bodybuilding skills to the next level, the Power Freestyle Group Training (FGT Power) will ensure safe use of heavy equipment, pointing to the explosive muscle build you are looking for.
Added to Fitness First's state of the art equipment, our professional and qualified group exercise instructors run a number of classes designed for more serious strength training. Join a Body Pump class to strengthen and tone fast. It's a great way to meet friends, learn how to use the weights and get fit. The hardcore max class will take your workout up a notch, using strength, balance and co-ordination to challenge your endurance and maximising fat-burning potential.
2. Freestyle Area Apparatus
The Freestyle area gives you access to a number of useful bodybuilding tools. Look out for a large number of free weights, bringing variation to your workout. The 'bells' are great for building and toning muscle. Our Fitness First trainers will show you how make best use of the kettlebell, steel bell and dumbbells. For effective weight training/ bodybuilding you need a strong core and free weights are ideal for doing just that. There's lots more in the Freestyle area and it's best to familiarise yourself with the equipment that will contribute to your strength training.
Weighted Resistance Tubing
All our Fitness First gyms are equipped with weighted resistance tubing, used for vitality, performance and reconditioning (ViPR). Each piece of equipment is carefully designed to tone, stretch, strengthen and build various muscle groups. When strength training, weight lifting or bodybuildingyou want to ensure strong muscle fibre and ViPR is ideal resistance training that will achieve just that.
Using Body Weight to Strength Train
In the Freestyle area you can also use your body weight to strength train. Build muscle through push-ups, pull-ups, crunches and squats. Our Fitness First trainers will assist you in learning the right technique and form to maximise the exercise and avoid injury. These exercises are effective in bodybuilding or regular fitness routines.
3. Exercise Machines
Bodybuilding at Fitness First is taken to another level when you use our large variety of exercise machines. We have machines that will target just about every muscle group in the human body. Do ab crunches, butterfly (also known as pec deck), calf press, leg press, glute ham raise, hack squat - the list is endless. Exercise machines give you the opportunity to vary workouts, exercise different muscle groups, increasing weights as you get stronger. They are a very effective method of strength training.
