If you’ve been in the workout scene for a while, it can sometimes feel like you’ve done it all by now. It seems like every group fitness class you do these days is some variation of cycling, strength training, or HIIT. While these are all great ways to get a sweat on and strengthen your body, you might be in the market for a new, fresh way to exercise as we move into 2019. Lucky for you, Fitness First are introducing two new group workouts that are about the take the world by storm; Animal Flow and Piloxing.

Fitness First Group Instructor Andrea Giovannini explains how both classes can be done without the use of any equipment and how the routines can work every part of your body.

What is Piloxing?

“Uniquely blending two of the industry's most powerful and timeless disciplines of Pilates and Boxing, PILOXING SSP adds a third element of dance into this high-energy interval workout. This dynamic program moves through heart-pumping, powerful boxing combinations to sculpting and lengthening Pilates-influenced movements to 'let yourself GO' dance releases, and back around again. Never have you enjoyed sweating so much.”

What is Animal Flow?

“Animal Flow® is an innovative fitness program that combines quadrupedal and ground-based movement with elements from various bodyweight-training disciplines to create a fun, challenging workout emphasizing multi-planar, fluid movement.”

What skill level is required?

“Everybody can try both classes. A little bit of freedom is given to Piloxing due to the movement choices while with Animal Flow, due to the major skills required, the class is best for already conditioned people, that already are practicing sports or fitness activities. No matter which type but is important that they reached the minimum of mobility and strength required to cope with the class.”

What are the benefits of a Piloxing class?

“With Piloxing you get the benefits of Pilates, Boxing and Dancing all in one. Meaning longer, leaner muscles, improved strength, and flexibility, better coordination, and endurance throughout your entire body.”

What are the benefits of an animal flow class?

“No matter what your sports or fitness goals are, Animal Flow will improve your mobility, strength, endurance, and power. Whether you’re an extreme athlete or just looking to get fit – Animal Flow is for everyone who wants to get into their peak physical condition and have fun while doing it.

Animal Flow® includes a wide range of exercises and movement combinations that are grouped into six components, each designed to elicit specific results.”

What equipment is used?

“Both classes are without equipment. Piloxing has optional special weighted gloves to make the workout a bit more effective, the gloves are unique and specially designed for the class. The gloves will be purchasable very soon or can be ordered online.”

Are there any mental advantages of doing these classes?

“There is a lot of research surrounding the mental advantages of fitness classes that cannot be easily summarized in a few lines. Because of hormonal and environmental situations, you will always have a happier attitude after working out. With Piloxing you will enjoy the fun of the class and be charged full of positive vibes, while with the animal flow you will earn more self-awareness and body control as well as an increase in concentration levels.

How often should I be doing these classes?

“We recommend practicing the same activity for a maximum of 3 times a week. You can practice the activity whenever you want but remember that variation is a key point in order to maximize the results.”

What attire should I wear?

“Comfortable clothes, gym shorts, leggings, tank tops, vests or t-shirts. Both classes are bare feet. For Piloxing you have the option of wearing socks (anti-slip are perfect) or extremely soft shoes for people with issues.”

When are these classes running?

“These classes are running in almost all the Fitness First Clubs, at selected timings. You can check out the schedule on our website or through the Myfitnessfirst app. Find out more about the classes here
